Eleni Andrikopoulou (Dr. AUTh), is Professor of Spatial Development and Regional Policy at the Department of Urban and Regional Development and Planning, School of Architecture, Faculty of Technology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). She has published and conducted research on Greek and European spatial development and regional policy issues. Her publications include Regions in the European Union. The evolution of Regional Policy from the Treaties of Rome to the Maastricht Treaty, (Themelio 1995, in Greek), New European Space: enlargement and the geography of European development (co-editor, Themelio 2000, in Greek), and City and Urban Planning Practices, (co-author, Kritiki 2014, in Greek). She was a founding member of the Editorial Committees of the Greek journals City and Region (1981-89) and TOPOS: journal of urban and regional studies (1990-2007/ISSN 1105–3267).

Athena Yiannakou (Architect AUTH, MSc and PhD LSE) is Associate Professor of Urban Policy and Urban Development at the School of Spatial Planning and Development, Faculty of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She has been project leader of many regional and urban plans, spatial development and environmental projects and has been awarded in competitions for major planning projects. She is co-writer of the recent books City and Planning Practices for Sustainable Urban Development, 2nd revised edition (Kritiki 2014) and Sustainable Cities: Adaptation and Resilience in Times of Crisis (Hellenic Academic Ebooks 2015) and has published articles in scientific journals, books, conference proceedings and websites. She has participated in many international and national research projects. Her interests focus on urban and regional planning with special emphasis on: urban policy, urban development and urban regeneration, spatial planning systems, spatial planning, sustainable development and climate change and relations between transport and spatial development.

Elisavet Thoidou (Architect engineer AUTh, MSc Regional Development Panteion University, PhD School of Architecture AUTh) is Assistant Professor of Regional Spatial Planning at the School of Spatial Planning and Development, Faculty of Engineering, AUTh. She also teaches in post-graduate programmes. She has worked for many years in the public sector on issues of regional planning, spatial development, and management of natural resources. She has participated in several research projects and has published in scientific journals, edited volumes, and conference proceedings. Her current research interests concern regional spatial planning, spatial planning systems and policies, strategic spatial planning in metropolitan areas, spatial planning and climate adaptation, territorial cohesion and EU urban and regional policy, new forms of spatial intervention, territorial resilience and spatial planning in the context of crisis.

Grigoris Kafkalas (M.A., D.Phil Sussex, Dr. AUTh) is Professor of Urban and Regional Development and Spatial Planning at the Department of Urban and Regional Development and Planning, School of Architecture, Faculty of Technology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) and founder and coordinator of the Spatial Development Research Unit (SDRU/AUTh). He has published many articles and books in Greek and English. His books include:Spatial Development Issues: theoretical approaches and policies (editor, Kritiki 2004, in Greek), Metropolitan Governance: international experience and the Greek reality (co-editor, UEHR/Ziti 2003, in Greek), Overcoming Fragmentation in Southeast Europe (co-editor, ASHGATE 2007), Thessaloniki on the Verge: the city as a process of change (co-editor, Kritiki 2008, in Greek), and City and Urban Planning Practices (co-author, Kritiki 2014, in Greek). He directed and/or participated in many Greek and international research projects. He was a founding member of the Editorial Committees of the Greek journals City and Region (1981-89) and TOPOS: journal of urban and regional studies (1990-2007/ISSN 1105–3267)

Dionysis Latinopoulos (Agricultural Economics AUTh,  MSc University College London, Dr. AUTh) is Assistant Professor at the School of Spatial Planning and Development, Faculty of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His specialization is on issues of: “Rural Sustainable Development and Management of Natural Resources”. He has developed educational and research activities in the following fields: environmental and socio-economic impacts of spatial planning, environmental and natural resource economics, economics of sustainable development, decision making in rural areas. His research interests also include: sustainble tourism development, non-market valuation of environmental resources, as well as multicriteria analysis in environmental planning and management.

Georgia Pozoukidou (Planner, MSc and Ph.D. University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) is an Assistant Professor at the School of Spatial Planning and Development, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her specialization is on issues of “Urban form: Policies and land use models”. She has developed professional, research and educational activities in Greece and the USA. Her scientific and research interests focuses on spatial planning, with emphasis in land use form and structure in metropolitan and urban scale. Issues of networks and sprawl, flows and space, and land use and transport systems’ interaction, have been her primary research interests. Furthermore she is also interested in the use of quantitative methods to understand interactions between land use and transport systems and use of urban models as planning support systems and decision making tools.
